Customer Story: Kaitie at Riverstone

Meet Kaitie!

Kaitie Briere, the Director of Care at the Riverstone Timberwalk Retirement Community, has been a dedicated healthcare professional since her days working as a floor nurse in a retirement community. Over the years, she has witnessed firsthand the evolution of patient care technology. One solution, in particular, has significantly changed how she works: Esprit-ai Sense™  .

Choosing Esprit-ai:

Kaitie first encountered Esprit-ai as a nurse, at a demo suite showcasing various fall monitoring options. The demonstration highlighted how the system could detect falls or unusual inactivity, such as a resident entering the bathroom but not coming out within a reasonable time. This would trigger an alert to the nursing team, ensuring timely intervention. Though Riverstone no longer has the luxury of a dedicated demo room due to high demand for resident space, they have successfully integrated Esprit-ai Sense™ into their care routines.

“It was the first time I’d ever heard of it. They had a demo suite set up with all of the fall monitoring options. There were some in the bathroom that would trigger if somebody were to fall or if they didn’t pass this alert point. It would send a trigger message to the nursing team to say, “This person went into the bathroom but didn’t come back out of the bathroom,” and we would go check just to make sure that they hadn’t fallen. It was really good for the staff and to show residents’ family members.

I always recommend it because the other fall monitoring systems that I’m used to either play just a noise out loud, which, unless you’re in the same room as the person, does nothing. And there’s no sensitivity range to it. If somebody rolls over in bed and it starts ringing, the nurses end up becoming blind to that since it’s constantly going off every time somebody turns or rolls around in bed.”

Our Solution:

The Esprit-ai Sense™ Smart Bed Alarm installs discreetly under the mattress and seamlessly integrates into the Nursecall system.

Key features of Esprit-ai SenseTM include:

· Predictive AI Technology: Anticipates bed exits within a 15-minute window with over 95% accuracy, enabling proactive caregiver intervention

· Customizable Sensitivity: Adjusts to individual movement patterns, reducing false alarms and ensuring relevance.

· Sleep Quality Monitoring: Tracks five sleep qualities, providing trends over time to help caregivers manage fall risks due to poor sleep. Medication Management: Collects sleep data to assist caregivers, aiming to improve sleep quality and minimize fall risks related to overmedication.

· Real-Time Alerts: Notifies caregivers via smartphone application, SMS, or existing Nursecall system about wandering or fall risks.

“We get a text message to our nursing phones right away whenever the resident gets out of bed. The expert team can adjust the sensitivity of the fall alert system. So, if somebody rolls over in bed and triggers an alert to us all the time, it’s obviously not useful because some people roll around in bed a lot. So we’ll come in and adjust it to make sure there’s more or less sensitivity. We can also program the hours that it’s active. For a lot of our residents, we just have it on at night because that’s when they’re in bed. For some people who are bed-bound or in bed all the time, they’ll set it for 24/7, and we’ll get alerts all day long. So, it’s really customizable.”

Our Impact:

Kaitie can attest to the profound impact of Esprit-ai Sense™  on her work and the overall care at Riverstone. “We have multiple residents here with Esprit-ai Sense™ for fall prevention, and I think it’s great. I always encourage residents and family members to add this to their package for their added safety, especially for high-risk residents. It saves our floor nurses so much time and back-and-forth. I recommend it to anyone working in retirement communities.”

The Esprit-ai Sense™  system has not only enhanced safety but also made it significantly easier for nurses to provide effective care, ensuring peace of mind for both residents and their families.
